wHAT WOULD MY ANCESTORS SAY?

What Would My Ancestors Say is both a statement and question, an artwork and an archive. The repetitive and laborious nature of the artwork - handwriting the phrase and handprinting the artwork multiple times– serves as a reminder that our present moments and future legacies have been made possible by the efforts of those who came before us. In inviting my family members to contribute their handwriting, the artwork becomes a familial archive rather than just an aesthetic expression. By exhibiting the artwork in an institutional setting, it guarantees that my family is part of public memory and that they are not forgotten.

Exhibited at Living Arts Centre, Mississauga, Ontario as part of the exhibition, Echoes (May 13-June 1, 2025)
